Music Monday: Choctaw Bingo by James McMurtry

We took no-angel (our daughter’s nom de gerber) down to Texas over Christmas to see my wife’s family.  It was her first time on a plane.  The first flight was a quick hop affair, but that didn’t stop it from being the longest flight of our life as no-angel threw up on us over and over.  And over.  And over again.  Those poor people behind us, and their poor bags.  At some point you would think we would have learned our lesson about saying “at least she doesn’t have anything left in her.”

We should have give her some Benadryl.

That, Texas, and time with my wife’s crazy-ass family was plenty to turn my mind back toward James McMurtry.  Highlights included our daughter’s first shotgun.  Always good to get down in the thickets with my Asian bride.

And you can’t help but love a song that includes the single greatest simile in the history of the English language: “A great big old hard-on like an old bois d’arc fence post you can hang a pipe rail gate from.”

Choctaw Bingo is off McMurtry’s album Saint Mary of the Woods.
