I am on my second swing through the Rust Belt and did stints in Houston and north Florida. I know enough to take winters up here over summers down there. But this is a bit much.
I can’t believe it took me this long to get to Johnny Cash. When It’s Springtime in Alaska was originally a Johnny Horton song, but I prefer Cash’s version. It’s one of Cash’s great songs about murder—he released enough of them to fill out one CD in a boxed set.
When It’s Springtime in Alaska is off Cash’s album Orange Blossom Special.

I’d never heard this cover before. Well done.

I was surprised to learn that Horton’s original version is so much better known. I was familiar with Cash’s version long before Horton’s.

I used to have Horton’s version on vinyl…like 30 years ago. I miss that album now.
