Announcing the Gravel and Guts: Grit Lit and Country Noir Book Facebook group:
Hillbilly Highways already has a Facebook page. You can find it here. But Facebook pages are, frankly, a crude tool. Groups in particular are much better for conversation. So I have started a Facebook group focusing on the same sort of gritty stories I talk about here. You can find it here.
Check out the relevant passage from the description:
Home for all things grit lit, hick lit, rough South, country noir, Appalachian noir, Ozark noir, hillbilly noir, rez noir, neo western…even Southern Gothic.
Think Ron Rash, Daniel Woodrell, Cormac McCarthy, William Faulkner, Charles Frazier, Bonnie Jo Campbell, Flannery O’Connor, David Joy, Brian Panowich, Robert Parker, Joe Lansdale, Tom Franklin, Frank Bill, Smith Henderson, Taylor Brown…
It’s crime fiction, but crime fiction rooted in place. Places where ‘there are no curbs. The roads are gravel and dirt, but the people still find a way to fall. It’s literary fiction, but literary fiction that isn’t afraid to get its hands a little dirty and a lot bloody.
As with this page and the blog, this is the ONLY group devoted to this corner of fiction. So come join me at the Gravel and Guts: Grit Lit and Country Noir Book Facebook group.
The Facebook group will have a slightly different focus than the blog—both broader and narrower. The sorts of books covered are broader, but it is much more book-focused.
You can follow all of the action at Hillbilly Highways a number of other ways:
The best way to follow Hillbilly Highways is through WordPress or, better yet, an RSS feed. I use the G2Reader, which can be a bit wonky, but is a fair approximation of the now sadly departed Google Reader. (At the G2Reader, at least, paste https://hillbillyhighways.wordpress.com/feed to add Hillbilly Highways to your feeds.)
