I’ve always dug the Bakersfield sound. But that has mostly been through the prism of Dwight Yoakam’s work (great as it is), as well as through Merle Haggard. I haven’t even begun to really dig into it. You know what would allow me to really dig into it?
Out Today: A 10-CD Bakersfield Sound box set.
Complete with a 220-page hardcover book. It has tons of tracks from Merle Haggard and Buck Owens. Older influences are represented by The Maddox Brothers and Rose and Bob Wills and His Texas Playboys, alongside any number of other artists who I have never heard of. At $200+, it’s a serious investment, but investment is the right word. I’m going to have to save up a bit (money but especially time), but I can’t wait to dive in.
More upcoming releases:
Wildcard by Miranda Lambert – November 1
Onward by Stoney LaRue – November 1
Blackberry Smoke Homecoming: Live in Atlanta – November 15
